The Global Impact Coalition (GIC), a CEO-led alliance committed to achieving a circular and net-zero chemicals industry, is launching a forward-looking initiative to integrate leading consumer goods companies as Value Chain Partners.
As climate regulations tighten and demands for circular product design intensify, it’s increasingly evident that isolated sectoral efforts are insufficient. Consumer brands, heavily reliant on chemical inputs for both products and packaging, must work hand-in-hand with suppliers to reach sustainability targets.
“Reducing what is known as scope 3 carbon emissions will require a deeper integration of business models and ultimately, greater collaboration along the material and product value chain,” said Charlie Tan, CEO of the Global Impact Coalition. “We are putting out a strong call to action for global consumer goods companies to co-build the next generation of supplier-enabled solutions, along with the chemical industry.”
“Collaboration of chemical companies with downstream partners such as consumer goods companies is essential to scale sustainable products and build viable business cases,” said Lars Kissau, President at BASF and member of the GIC Executive Committee. “This is not about talk. It’s about co-creating real solutions with the companies that rely on the chemical industry in all their products.”
GIC’s distinctive value lies in its action-first model. Rather than focusing on industry reports or policy influence, it supports hands-on collaboration through a four-step framework: problem alignment, ideation, project incubation, and spin-off implementation. Existing initiatives include building closed-loop waste streams, sourcing renewable biomass, and resolving PFAS contamination.
By participating, consumer goods companies can:
-
Influence solution development based on sector-specific sustainability challenges
-
Trial and refine breakthrough ideas with chemical partners
-
Collaborate with other global players tackling Scope 3 emissions, circular design, and safer chemistry
GIC welcomes global consumer brands that are serious about engaging in joint innovation with chemical suppliers to create long-term environmental and commercial impact. Participation includes C-suite engagements, active project group work, and biannual innovation workshops.
