Chelmsford renewable energy firm KT & MJA Solar Ltd has been awarded Family Business of the Year 2025 at this year’s Clean Energy Awards – a remarkable honour for a business that began operations just 15 months ago.
Launched in February 2023 by Kevin Weedon, the company was founded with family at its core. Its name combines the initials of Weedon’s children, who remain active figures in the company story – including Archie, who designed the logo at age 9.
Despite beginning with zero revenue, KT & MJA Solar now handles four installations per week, with one of its most ambitious to date being a £38,000, 64-panel home system completed in Brentwood.
As the summer season approaches and households prepare for energy cost spikes, KT & MJA Solar has unveiled an enticing offer: a free air conditioning unit included with every full solar and battery setup – giving customers improved climate control and energy savings in one.
“We started this with nothing but belief, hard work, and a desire to build something lasting for our children,” said Director Kevin Weedon. “There were long nights, moments of doubt, and times we asked ourselves if it was even possible. But we’ve grown through word of mouth, referrals, and trust. To now be recognised as Family Business of the Year is a massive honour.”
Standing out from larger firms, KT & MJA Solar focuses on bespoke installations. Their commitment to technical site visits – including assessments of structural load, orientation, and cabling – ensures each solution is built to maximise long-term returns and reliability.
Customer praise has been notably strong across Facebook, Instagram, and Trustpilot, with the company’s hands-on service approach frequently mentioned in reviews.
Now officially MCS certified, a government-recognised TrustMark supplier, and a partner to Octopus Energy, the company is gaining significant ground in a highly competitive industry.
KT & MJA Solar has also confirmed it will showcase its services at several county shows throughout 2025, meeting face-to-face with prospective customers and promoting clean energy adoption.
