The UK government has recently called for contributions to form a new, modernised free trade agreement (FTA) with Türkiye, aiming to update the current agreement, which is based on outdated 1990s provisions and primarily focuses on goods trading.

This new FTA is expected to be more comprehensive, incorporating sectors like tech and digital services, aligning with the needs of the modern economy. The increase in trade, reaching £26 billion in the 12 months up to June 2023, underscores Türkiye’s status as one of the UK’s top 20 trading partners.
