Outstanding Outcomes for INTO University Partnerships’ Foundation Medicine Programme

INTO University Partnerships has celebrated a significant milestone with its foundation programme in medicine and health, seeing a vast majority of its students receiving conditional offers for medical degrees both within the UK and abroad.

This year, an impressive 70% of the international students from the 2023 cohort who are targeting a career in medicine have been offered a place on a five-year MBBS degree programme.

The programme, which commenced at the INTO London Centre in April 2022, accepted its first batch of international students in September of the same year. Those enrolled in the foundation programme have the opportunity to advance to several high-ranking universities around the world, including many in the QS Top 150, and into various competitive health profession degrees.

The foundation year involves studying modules in biology, chemistry, mathematics, and research skills, alongside two specialised medicine modules only available at INTO London. These include Advanced Sciences for Medicine, which deepens students’ understanding of scientific concepts applicable to medicine, and Professional and Communication Skills for Medicine, aimed at preparing students for medical interviews and equipping them with skills vital for healthcare professionals.

Nara, a South Korean student in the inaugural cohort, received unconditional offers to study medicine at Aston University and Queen Mary University of London, Malta Campus.

Nara commented, “As an international student, it’s very important to know how to communicate well. At INTO, I take part in English classes and improve my academic writing, and how to prepare for presentations – this really helped me when writing personal statements. I also have 1-1 sessions with the university progression and career manager, during which I discuss personal statements and they provide feedback for applying to university medical schools.”

Remarkably, 95% of students in the foundation programme have received offers from British universities to study a variety of medical-related degrees. Those who did not secure medicine offers have been accepted into programmes such as Biomedical Sciences, Medical Sciences, Pharmacology, and Biology at respected universities like Bristol University, Queen Mary University of London, Aston University, and University of Central Lancashire (UCLan).

Robin Peel, the Centre Director at INTO London, said, “We have designed this foundation programme in medicine and health professions to give our students the best chance of getting into and being successful on their chosen health degree with excellent progression options, a guaranteed interview at a UK medical school and unique specialist modules.”

INTO University Partnerships also provides extensive support during the university application process, including a part-time online University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT) preparation course over the summer before the foundation programme starts.

Through individual meetings, students receive personalised support, and in group sessions, they are guided through the application process collectively. The University Progression and Careers Manager at INTO London organises workshops for crafting personal statements, as well as guest lectures and masterclasses from medical professionals, in addition to offering interview preparation and practice.

Students of INTO London benefit from frequent practical classes in the ‘Superlab’ at London Metropolitan University, one of the largest laboratories in Europe. This facility supports their academic and professional growth, helping them learn proper lab etiquette, enhance their English language skills in a scientific context, and gain proficiency in using sophisticated lab equipment.

The INTO London Centre offers customised university preparation programmes, ensuring entry to over 100 universities across the UK and Europe. Its prime location near the commercial and cultural heart of London provides a stimulating educational atmosphere.

Since starting in 2005, INTO University Partnerships has assisted more than 150,000 students from over 180 countries in securing their academic futures at top universities in the US, UK, and Australia.
